Volker Haug Lighting
2007-10-23 10:28:18

Do only the design-minded notice the lighting when they walk into a room? Melbourne-based designer Volker Haug strives to ensure his ideas are essential and deliberate features – hanging from ceilings, attached to walls and placed on tabletops.  From a young age Haug’s preference for raw, industrial lighting design emerged.

The ‘Antler’ series primarily in black and white consists of a range of configurations  the most intricate he calls ‘Rudolf.’  And ‘Cable Jewelry,’ the long pendant, can be curved and bent to suit personal preferences. Haug has discovered that the potential lighting can have on our lives is limitless. By Andrew J Wiener

STEAM - Donna Marcus
2007-02-26 13:51:03

Queensland based artist, Donna Marcus, is well known for her fetish of using kitchenware and aluminum products to create her impressive sculptures. Marcus was one of three artists who answered a call for entries to exhibit work in the main piazza of Brisbane Square. Her project STEAM, consisted of 15 geodesic spheres ranging in size from 1.3m to 2.6m in diameter.

The spheres were created from 7000 steamer pieces welded together as well as 780 plates bolted together. Inspired by the concept of random disbursement, Marcus has placed the works in a variety of locations throughout the space in an almost haphazard manner. Her experiment in deciding where the pieces would lie, began with her creating a scaled down model version of the work and throwing them across the piazza floor like marbles. The point at which they landed resulted in the artworks final destination. by Andy G

2006-11-02 08:57:18

With suction cupped feet and a warm inner glow, these rechargeable , stick on anywhere lights are not only cool but rather handy. The lights are surrounded by a rubber outer shell which houses and protects the inner bulb.
Three suction cups at the base act as feet, allowing the bulb to be placed just about anywhere.

As they are battery operated and fully rechargeable, the bulbs are cordless  and can travel with you and take up new real estate in the most unusual places. They will be available to purchase from online store sometime in 2007. by Billy T

ART LIGHTS
2006-07-11 14:51:47

Lighting has become a key element of interior design. The humble light bulb and lamp shade has morphed into all sorts of artistic creations. This new collection by Italian design firm Artmide is a case in point. The lines between art and lighting have been fabulously blurred. Art installation or living room light? Who cares, as long as we can buy one. by Lisa Evans

LIGHT CARPET
2006-03-29 16:29:50

A few months ago we featured the "light up your life" trend... that was only the beginning... Light keeps on illuminating our life in surprising ways. A new example comes from Johanna Hyrkas, a Finnish designer/architect/artist who puts poetry on the floor with her light carpet. It isn't a disco dance-floor but it will enhance the complexion of your pedicured feet, your Chihuahua or your children. What more could you want than to be able to walk in the light...by Yvan Rodic

Its shape allows it to be hung on any wall the way that a picture would be placed, allowing you to create an ever changing lighting environment in a vertical setting. POOL LAMPS
2005-05-23 02:00:00

One of the great things about summer is a pool party and that usually means a little moonlight skinny-dipping. Well, at the best pool parties it does, anyway. Lighten things up a little with these sexy, funky, waterproof pool lamps from Spanish design gurus metalarte. Watch them bob gently on the surface like ghostly standard lamps. Designed by Hector Serrano, the lamps really are the shape of pools - and pool parties - to come, and available through selected design retailers. The rechargeable lamps are moulded from tough, waterproof polyethylene and cost around $450 each. Darkness would be cheaper but not half as cool or half as much fun. GARDEN TRENDS
2005-02-03 00:00:00

www.bloomusa.net

This illuminated pot planter is the work of Dutch designer Rob Slewe and is the hottest garden must-have to hit the market. The ingenious yet simple design involves a set of electrics installed in the pot, which are cast-moulded and housed away from the rest of the pot.

Bloom pots can connect to watering systems through the port in the bottom of each flowerpot. This port is also the drain for  the flowerpot which enables water to bypass the electricals.

The range of colours actually come from the pot itself rather than the lights inside and hide any  traces of soil from the outside view. Bloom allows endless possibilities for chic outdoor landscape designs as the pot can double as an ice bucket or beverage holder. Those looking for unique, cutting edge style to add to their own garden, will find Bloom irresistibly illuminating.
