Illuminated dance floors are
nothing new. In the seventies they where all the rage, the problem was
that dancers flared hot pants would cover the floor panels and kill the
effect. Now, flares or not, the illuminated dance floor is back, this
time in LED form. Using the latest in pressure sensitive LED
technology, these panels are designed to interact with club goers
moves as well as D.J's sets. Special plug ins can be downloaded into
the D.Js computer equipment allowing an entire set to be pre programmed
where the music and lights work together. The panels are not restricted
to work only on dance floors and can be fitted to walls, bar tops and
Lionel Ritchie's favorite place to dance, ceilings. by Billy T
Lets
face it, the only thing good about a Laundromat is the prospect of
meeting someone cute as you sort through your underwear, otherwise the
concept is a drag. Well picking up aside, the Whirlpool Bodybox
is about to change all of that. The body box is an all rounder
technological clothes care wonder. By integrating daily clothes care
functions such as washing, conditioning, sorting, collecting and
tumbling, the body box makes laundry an automated process. The clever
system tags individual clothing in order of fabric type and collects,
separates and cleans the clothes accordingly. The programming is
accessed by both internet and an 18 inch touch panel screen. With the
laundry dealt with, one can move over to the personal care side of the
Bodybox and utilize the luxury of the adjacent sink, shower and steam
bath cabin, making less about laundry and more about you! by Andy G
They were great for those tacky pictures of busty
babes on the cover, but the age old postcard may soon be extinct
thanks to a revolutionary digital postcard designed by Aussie designer,
Stuart Calvery. Calvery's "Snap + Send" postcard (pictured left)
is a disposable digital camera in the shape of a postcard. The back of
the postcard hosts a flat screen, whilst the front is a flash and
lens. After snap happily shooting your holiday pics, simply
address the digi-card and pop a stamp on the front. The receiver
simply snaps off the lower half of the postcard and views the shots
from the screen on the back. Although the camera has no zoom
functions, its designer says its all about the fast end disposability
of his one off use invention. The Mvura (pictured right) is a household
water purifier targeted at rural Africa. It is intended to be
distributed through aid organizations already operating with communites
in need. It utilizers the simple technique of pasteurization using
solar heat. 15 litres of water is heated to 65c within 2 hours, whick
kills all harmful bacteria. Both of these cool designs are part of the University of New South Wales (Australia) Bachelor of Industrial design 2005 graduand exhibition. by Billy T

Maxime Touratier is just off-category. The Paris based artist invented a new way to do illustrations, he‚Äôs photographing light shining out of small holes on black paper, drawing most of the time prestige subjects. Touratier refashions photography as if he were a sculptor. He meticulously applies optical and chemical supports to transform contemporary photography, playing with blank spaces, and with spaces around the object in such a way that essence of the object becomes heightened. Maxime Touratier studied at the Ecole Nationale des Beaux Arts in Bourges, France and received his Masters at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Nantes, France. The über premium touch of Touratier‚Äôs work has created a huge interest in the luxury goods market. Cartier and Guerlain have already used his talent. Clara Kraetsch and Doreen Schulz, the designers behind the hot Berlin design label C-Neeon, burst on to the fashion radar this year after winning Europe's prestigious young designer competition, the Hyeres Festival. The popular duo's collections major in strong graphic prints with hints of Mondrian and silhouettes with intriguing volume, architectural structre, and asymmetric shapes. Kraetsh and Schulz met in 2001 at the Kunsthochschule Berlin college, where they then began their label. Sharp folds, tight pants, large lapels and tuxedo jackets covered in prints make a complete look. Nude chiffon tops stretched over prints and plunging striped V necks: sporty hip hop kids meet high tech fashion. Their vibrant leisurewear, which merges traditional tailoring and modern graphics, has been stocked since October at the hip Paris boutique Maria Luisa, at Galleries Lafayette, and in a few hotspots in Japan. For those who want to wear Neo-Bauhaus fashion, here's a unique opportunity! by Yvan Rodic
Cool Hunting is so often about retro chic. From vintage inspired designer clothes, to retro funk toys and gadgets. The fragrance world is no exception, with the re-release of the vintage atomizer pump in perfume bottles. From the fragrance houses of Aqua di Parma, through to Prada, those with the nose are jumping on the nostalgic bandwagon and unveiling their latest scents with the chic atomizer as standard. There is something pampering about delicately squeezing that little cushion of air as a fine mist of your atomizer scent envelopes your face. It's very Elizabeth Taylor and it makes us feel special. We love the atomizer and the ritual it adds to scenting ourselves. by Lisa Evans
Elvis once sang about the bright lights of this
city setting his soul on fire. Today it's more like an inferno. This is
one of the most artificially enhanced cities on the planet. A city
which can be seen from outer space on the earths surface thanks to it's
plethora of dazzling lights and astronomical energy consumption per
square mile.
Las Vegas is like an old lover you still cant shake
your feelings for. For me, this was the ultimate love/hate
relationship. Mesmerized by the enormity of it all, the theatrical
architecture, the jaw dropping shows, the money, the shopping and the
sheer grand scale of this city left me almost exhausted. As much
as I was astonished by the detail and grandeur of it all, I was also
left puzzled as to how a place like this can keep on growing. Each year
brings a bigger hotel, a more elaborate show, a brighter star.
The
enjoyment level of your stay depends on the duration of it. I stayed a
week and found that 3 days would have been plenty. The strip of hotels
and casinos is like a long road to heaven, or hell depending on whether
you win or lose. Of course, there’s only one hotel you need to
consider when coming to Vegas. Enter the Bellagio Hotel.
Aside from it's size, the first thing that attracts you to the hotel is
it's amazing fountain structure and its location (situated right in the
middle of the strip). Classified as Las Vegas' biggest and best, the
fountain takes you on a musical journey with classical and opera themes
coupled with an aquatic choreography like nothing I had seen before,
its kind of cool. One thing that the Bellagio did amazingly well
was beds. Not only did they look enormous from the first glance, they
were exceptionally inviting. The only way to describe laying on this
bed is the feeling of being gently devoured by something remarkably
comfortable. Ecstasy in bed. That is the only way to describe the
approach the Bellagio has to bedding. So comfortable are these beds,
that you could easily stay there all day. Room service redefined
itself. Ordering from your room had graduated from a waiter bringing in
a tray, to a waiter wheeling in a small dining table. One would expect
the theme 'be our guest' to accompany the food complete with dancing
cutlery and plates.
Apart from being seduced by the enormity and
grandeur of the Bellagio, you will also want to relax and that's where
the extravagant pool and spa areas of the hotel come in. The outdoor
pool area is like something out of an overproduced Hollywood movie of
the 1950's. It's size alone commands your respect, once that is given ,
feel free to jump right in and laze about the surrounding grounds all
day. The spa area is equally as lush and roomy enough to accommodate a
small army, its worth spending a few hours here.
Shopping at
Bellagio is equivalent to the world's best shopping strips, with
Armani, Gucci, Fendi and the fashion world's leading luxury labels at
your fingertips along with the shops next door at Caesars Palace. I
found the gaming floor at the casino to be of a high class than other
places in Vegas. The settings of the gaming tables alone (very Monte
Carlo) and the variety of gaming was meticulously selected and making
the gaming areas as luxurious as any other part of the Bellagio. One
thing that can be off putting in many of the casinos in Vegas is the
retaining cigarette smoke odor in many of the gaming areas. The
Bellagio has addressed this issue by creating ingenious drapery which
actually absorbs cigarette smoke and odors and eliminates it from the
rooms. Las Vegas is nothing if not excessive and the Bellagio
follows suit. A trip to Vegas, no matter how short deserves the respect
of a grand hotel with all the trimmings. The Bellagio provides that and
more. by Billy T
